In college, I took two classes focused on America’s senior population, where I began to notice a pattern. Many elderly individuals are prematurely moved into nursing homes not because they require intensive medical care, but because they lack everyday support at home. Conversations with caregivers and families revealed a quiet frustration. Few options exist that allow elderly individuals to remain independent without sacrificing safety.

Motivated by this gap, I formed a team and enrolled in an entrepreneurship course to develop a solution. We conducted in-depth field research, including speaking with seniors, family members, and care coordinators. What we found was striking. While technology has transformed nearly every aspect of daily life, elder care has lagged behind, continuing to rely on outdated, one size fits all solutions. The need for a more flexible, modern, and human centered approach was clear. We set out to create a system that supports aging in place rather than defaulting to premature institutionalization.

That insight became the foundation for HomeLink. Our project ultimately won our class's venture capital funding award, validating the problem we identified and our proposed solution. After graduating, we continued building HomeLink beyond the classroom.

HomeLink leverages existing IoT technology, including smart home controls and sensors, along with community based care resources, and centralizes them into a single, intuitive system.

Our goal is to enhance human care, not replace it. We are creating a personalized support system that respects autonomy, preserves dignity, and responds to the emotional and physical needs of seniors.
